Information on TRAIN:
At the invitation of the New York/New York Adult Education and Training Alliance, the Fund began work in May, 1992 to develop TRAIN, an easy-to-use, computerized information-retrieval system that allows educational and vocational counselors to make more appropriate referrals for their clients.
The TRAIN system has now been in operation for almost nine years and is implemented in almost 300 organizations in New York City.

Program Content
TRAIN maintains up-to-date descriptive information on:
- job preparation, educational and vocational training programs targeted primarily at
out-of-school youth and adults seeking training below the B.A. level:
TRAIN staff work closely with the Corporation for Supportive Housing, the Department of Employment, the Literacy Assistance Center, the Board of Education - Office of Adult and Continuing Education, CUNY and small service providers throughout the city to ensure that all program data, which includes such detailed information as cycle dates and waiting lists, is current, correct and complete. Approximately 2,000 educational and vocational programs are listed.
- child care programs, Head Start programs and family day care networks:
This resource helps individuals search for appropriate programs from among all licensed child care programs in the city. It also includes information on school age programs and provides online guidance in selecting an appropriate program and looking for financial assistance.
Approximately 2,000 public and private programs are listed.
- alcohol and substance abuse treatment services:
TRAIN includes information on all NYC licensed alcohol and substance abuse treatment programs. The program listing comes from the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services; information is supplemented with data gathered by TRAIN Staff. Approximately 350 programs are listed.
- TRAIN data are collected in collaboration with several agencies, including:
- the NYC Department of Employment,
- City University of New York,
- the NYC Board of Education Office of Adult and Continuing Education,
- the Literacy Assistance Center,
- the New York City Agency for Child Development ,
- the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services,
- the NYSED Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID).
